Wanna know how to make money with your car in the UK?
Owning a car is expensive. You have to pay for fuel, insurance, and maintenance on top of the initial cost of the vehicle.
You might be one of those people who has a car that is just sitting on the driveway with very little use. Or perhaps you’re on the road a lot, and you’re wondering if you could be getting paid for all that time you spend in the car.
The good news is that there are plenty of ways you can make money with your car – without selling it or giving up driving it!
Let’s take a look…

How to make money as a rideshare driver
One obvious way to make money with your car is by working as a rideshare driver for a company like Uber.
It’s important to note that you need to meet a few requirements in order to get paid to drive your car with Uber. For example, you’ll need a good driving record, passing background checks and other screening processes.
You’ll also need a private hire licence and private hire insurance. Uber can guide you on how to obtain these.
There are a few alternatives to Uber in the UK, such as Bolt and Free Now, but they all have different requirements and are limited to certain cities.
How to make money as a courier
Another way to make money with your car is by working as a courier. Companies like Amazon and Hermes make it possible for anyone in the UK who has a vehicle to make some extra cash on the side by working delivery shifts to suit them.
Getting a delivery gig usually starts with filling out an online application form and providing documents that prove you have a clean driving record and a valid car insurance. You’ll also need to provide a DBS certificate (criminal record check).
Amazon Flex is a great option for those who are looking for a super flexible side hustle using their car. It’s an on-demand job where you make your own schedule and are paid based on time and mileage.
Drivers simply log in to the app and pick the shifts that suit them each week. The average pay is apparently £13-£15 per hour.
Hermes self-employed couriers can choose to work anywhere from 1 to 7 days a week, with hours to suit. Hermes state that they typically pay £10-£15 per hour.
Alternatively, you could look into delivering for UberEats, Beelivery or Deliveroo.
How to make money using your car for advertising
Looking for a lazier way to use your car to make money? How about signing up with a company that will pay you to display adverts on your car!
This is called ‘vehicle wrapping’, and it’s close to passive income once you’ve set things up.
You can earn up to to £150 per month just for having the ads on your car. You don’t have to do any specific driving, although sometimes you’ll be offered the chance to earn more by taking part in special campaigns where a bunch of drivers meet up in a particular spot.
The ads are easily removed and should not damage your car. You have the right to reject any adverts you’re not happy with.
Of course, driving around with a giant billboard on your car is not for everyone. But if that doesn’t bother you, it’s pretty easy money!
Make money renting your car
Another way to make money with a car is by renting it out for short periods when you’re not using it. Car rental websites make it possible to make money by renting your car out when it’s sitting idle on your driveway or when you need some extra cash.
There are lots of websites that will help you make money renting your car by matching you with someone who wants to rent your vehicle, and they even cover insurance. For example:
You can make anywhere up to £650 a month doing this – although it obviously depends on location, availability and more.
If you often have periods when you don’t use your car, and you’re not precious about letting a stranger drive it, your car could be out earning you some serious cash while you put your feet up at home.
Make money by renting out your parking space
Ok, this is not exactly making money with your car itself, but it’s car related! If you have a driveway or private parking space at your home, you can make money by renting it out to other people.
There are lots of websites and apps to make it easy for you. Take a look at Just Park or Your Parking Space for starters. You simply post a description of your space and the price, and they will take care of finding someone who needs that spot!
You can make up to £600 per month renting out just one parking space at home, which is pretty good going. Pop your postcode into the sites above to get a personal estimate.
Of course, demand will be higher if your space is in a popular location such as a city centre, near a sports ground or similar.
How to make money by renting out your garage
In a similar vein, if you have a garage you’re not using, you could make some decent extra cash by renting out the space.
People are looking for garage space to store their own vehicles, or even just boxes or other large items such as furniture.
Again, there are plenty of websites and apps out there that make it easy for you to advertise your space, such as Stashbee. You can also advertise locally on Gumtree or in Facebook groups for your town.
Get paid for carpooling
This is kind of like picking up hitchhikers for the digital age – but it pays!
If you’re driving from city to city, post your drive on a website like BlaBlaCar, Liftshare or GoCarShare and see if you have any takers. You’ll get company on the drive, and make some money towards petrol costs.
You’re unlikely to make a profit on this, but it’s a good way to offset the costs of your own travel – while helping the environment and potentially making new friends.
Make money from your classic car
Do you have a classic car, luxury car or other unusual ride? These cars can be expensive to maintain, but one way to offset the cost is to share it with others who’ll appreciate your vehicle.
One way to make money from your classic car is by renting it out for weddings, films, photoshoots and the like.
Companies such as Book A Classic will help you facilitate this. There are several options, whether you want to stay in the driver’s seat yourself and act as chauffeur, allow others to drive it, or simply have it parked for display. Another one to look at is Motorhouse Hire, which sources unusual vehicles for film and TV.
Since these cars often have a high emotional value, just make sure you are clear with the borrower about your expectations, and only go ahead if you’re 100% comfortable.
Sell your number plate
It’s not just the make, model and colour of your car that make it a valuable asset – the number plate is also worth something.
If you have a personalised or rare numberplate, this could make up to £20,000 in just one sale! But even if you’ve got a bog standard plate, your specific combination of letters and numbers might mean something to someone.
You can request a valuation and start the sales process on a website like CarReg.
Make money at car boot sales
Well, you need a car to enter! Boot sales combine your car with that time-honoured way of earning quick cash – having a clear out and selling your unwanted bits and bobs.
Many people make a decent side income from car boot sales – either by selling off their own things, or buying items for resale. If you’re looking to make some quick cash while decluttering your home, this could be the answer.
Take on small moving jobs
If you have a bigger car or van, you could be in demand for occasional work helping people move house, pick up that sofa they bought off Facebook Marketplace, collect larger items from the shop, and so on.
There’s no need to be a professional mover for these kinds of odd jobs – just make sure your insurance covers this and that the vehicle is in good condition, with plenty of room inside for whatever needs transporting.
The best place to find this kind of work is on online marketplaces like Gumtree or TaskRabbit.
Final thoughts on how to make money from your car
There are so many ways to make money with your car. Whether you love driving and want to make money on the road as an Uber driver or courier, or you’d rather sit back and use your car to make money passively by renting it out on Hiyacar. If you have a car, there’s no excuse for not making some extra cash! Which way would suit you best?

The Ultimate List of Paid Survey Sites in the UK
Looking for the highest paid surveys to make money online?
When you’re looking into how to make extra money online, doing surveys for money is usually one of the first things that comes up.
And for good reason! It’s one of the easiest ways to start making money online for beginners.
Anyone can get paid to do surveys – all you need is an internet connection.
Wondering how much can you make with paid surveys?
Most people can make at least £20-£50 a month without too much trouble.
And I know some dedicated survey-holics who make around £200 or more each month!
Surveys for money UK
Here are some of the other advantages to completing online surveys for money:
It can be a great first step into the world of making money online.
The best UK survey sites pay out faster than a lot of other online money making methods – so it’s a great solution if you need to make cash fast.
Most surveys don’t require a whole lot of brainpower, so you can complete them while doing something else, like watching TV.
You can often complete paid online surveys on your phone. This is perfect for people who spend a lot of time on public transport, waiting for appointments, or who want to replace their social media scrolling habit with something more productive!
However, survey sites sometimes get a bad rap because the average pay is low and some surveys waste your time by screening you out half way through.
The secret to getting paid for surveys is this:
Not all survey sites are created equal.
You have to know which sites to prioritise, and which ones to avoid.
Which survey sites are the highest paying, and which ones waste your time.
Best survey sites UK
For these reasons, I decided to put together this list of the best online paid survey sites in the UK.
By the way, if you’re not in the UK, some of these sites will still work for you – but not all. You should check out my list of sites to earn money online worldwide to find options that will work in your country.
Please note that some of the links below are affiliate or referral links. If you sign up for some of the survey sites through a link on this page, I may earn a small referral fee at no cost to you. This helps to support my site!

The list: best survey sites in the UK for 2021!
Note: The more sites you sign up to, the better chance you have at making good money.
Limited on time but still want to get paid for surveys?
I have put the highest paid surveys towards the top of this list, so I recommend starting at the top and working your way down.
Sign up for at least the first 5-6 survey sites, but ideally as many as you have time for!
Prolific (previously known as Prolific Academic) is well known as one of the best paying survey sites in the UK – or anywhere!
Prolific’s main advantage is that they are very transparent. You’ll always know upfront how much you will make (in cash, not points), and how long it will take.
Plus, you never get screened out! Prolific will only show you surveys that you’re already qualified for.
All the surveys are for academic researchers, which means they are usually on very interesting topics such as psychology.
This site has the absolute best paid surveys in the UK as far as I’m concerned. It’s my personal favourite UK survey site, and it’s a favourite with my readers, too.
If you only sign up for one survey site, make it this one!
Payment method: PayPal
Payment threshold: £5
If you’re looking for more survey sites like Prolific, you need to check out Testable Minds. This is an academic research website that pays you to take part in psychological research studies.
It’s fairly well paying, and very transparent. You can see in advance how much the study pays, and how long it should take.
And you’ll only be offered studies that you are qualified for. No disqualifications!
All this makes it a great alternative to Prolific.
You can increase the number of studies you’re offered by filling out your profile and verifying your ID.
You can take part in as many studies as you like, but be aware that earnings are capped at $50 per month.
Payment method: Revolut or PayPal
Payment threshold: $10 for verified members, $20 for non verified
YouGov is a famous market research company, and it’s one of the best survey sites UK residents can join. Government agencies and media often use YouGov surveys – it’s quite cool when you see the results of a survey you did in the papers!
Most surveys are fairly short (less than 10 minutes) and there is a short daily survey to get a guaranteed 50 points each day.
I really enjoy YouGov surveys. The only problem is it can take a while to reach the £50 threshold.
Still, this is a legit and well-respected way to get paid to do interesting surveys. I definitely recommend signing up for this one.
Payment method: bank transfer
Payment threshold: £50
Each survey pays £3 and takes around 15-20 minutes. This makes Pinecone one of the best paid survey sites!
Also, you can cash out after every survey, so it’s great when you need to make money fast.
However, unlike the other sites on this list, it can be difficult to join because they are often closed to new members.
It is open at the time of writing, so get in there quick!!
If the sign-up link below doesn’t work when you try it, this means they have temporarily stopped recruiting new members. But they open up again every few weeks, so remember to check back.
Also, even if you don’t get in the first time you apply, you can always apply again. They need different kinds of people from month to month.
Payment method: PayPal or Amazon gift cards
Payment threshold: £3 (this means you can cash out after each survey!)
Sign up for Pinecone Research Currently not recruiting – check back soon!
Qmee is better known as the site that pays you to search the web (by showing you adverts that you get paid to click on). But recently they’ve become more of a ‘Get Paid To’ site, with paid surveys, cashback offers, gaming, and various other ways to earn money. So it’s definitely earned a place on this list of UK survey sites.
A couple of things I like about Qmee:
They tell you upfront how much you will earn for each survey in cash, not points.
And you can cash out instantly at any time! A great option when you need a little extra cash fast.
When you sign up with my link below, you’ll get a bonus 50p credited to your account after you cash out for the first time.
Payment method: PayPal or gift vouchers
Payment threshold: £0.01
This is not just a survey site – it has all kinds of opportunities such as paid website sign-ups, product trials and cashback.
You can also get paid to watch videos and play games!
It always has loads of surveys available so you can also use it just for surveys.
But to really maximise your earnings, definitely check out all the other ways to earn!
Payment method: PayPal or gift cards for Amazon, John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and lots more.
Payment threshold: £5 – and you currently get a £3 bonus when you register!
Testing Time has paid surveys, website and app testing opportunities, and paid focus groups. This is a high paying site, and the opportunities are interesting and rewarding!
The downside is that you have to wait to be invited to each survey or opportunity by email – and invites can be few and far between.
However, when surveys or testing jobs do come up, they typically pay very well. So it’s worth signing up, filling out the screening questions, and keeping an eye on your email.
Testing time pays around £4 for a short survey, and £25-£50 for a focus group or market research call (which usually take around 45 minutes to an hour).
Payment method: PayPal or bank transfer
Payment threshold: No threshold – payment is sent after each test
LifePoints is a relatively new one formed from the merger of two of the best known UK paid survey sites, MySurvey and GlobalTestMarket.
It is a huge global company which has a lot of surveys available. It can be used in many different countries.
As well as normal online paid surveys, you can also take part in special studies such as keeping a diary of your spending habits.
Payment method: You can redeem your points as PayPal cash, various gifts and products, or gift cards such as Starbucks, Amazon, iTunes and more
Payment threshold: Varies depending on the reward you request, but starts at around £5
As the name suggests, this site sends money straight to your inbox!
You can make money for reading emails (all adverts, obviously) and playing games online, as well as surveys.
I definitely recommend making a new email address for this one because you will get a lot of offers!
There’s a £1 bonus just for joining.
Payment method: Cheque, vouchers or prepaid Mastercard
Payment threshold: £20
This is a ‘get paid to’ site like Swagbucks and Inbox Pounds.
You earn points which you can swap for gift cards by doing surveys, watching videos, ‘get paid to click’, cashback on your shopping, and more.
Payment method: Lots of different gift cards options including Amazon, Starbucks, iTunes, Google Play, M&S and more. You can also get cash in the form of a prepaid Mastercard, PayPal or Bitcoin.
Payment threshold: Depends on how you want to redeem, but generally from about £5. You can only get PayPal or Bitcoin once you’ve already redeemed £50 in gift cards.
Maru Voice is a newer survey site, but it has a fair amount of interesting surveys.
One thing I like about this site is that they email you when a new survey is available for you, so you don’t have to waste time logging in to check.
You will also be entered into a £1000 prize draw when you sign up.
Payment method: vouchers for Amazon, iTunes and more
Payment threshold: £10
This is a popular survey site. As well as earning points per survey, each completed survey is an entry into a quarterly prize draw to win £5000.
Opinion Outpost has one of the lowest payment thresholds at just £2.50.
Payment method: PayPal, Amazon gift cards, iTunes gift cards, or you can spend your points in their online shop with various retail partners.
Payment threshold: £2.50
Featurepoints is an app and site like Qmee where you can make money from surveys, cashback, contests, and by downloading apps. Easy to use on the go!
You get 50 points just for signing up with my link (below), and I’ve found points add up fast on this one.
If you’re looking for apps like Qmee in the UK to earn money on the go, I recommend Featurepoints.
Payment method: PayPal or various different vouchers
Payment threshold: $3
i-Say (previously called Ipsos) is known as one of the best paying survey sites. Unfortunately they only pay in vouchers, with no option to claim your earnings as cash – but Amazon vouchers are always handy.
Payment method: gift cards (including Amazon, Argos and John Lewis) and charity donations
Payment threshold: £10
This is another well-paying site with a low payment threshold.
Payment method: PayPal or Amazon vouchers
Payment threshold: £4 for PayPal, £10 for Amazon
This one always seems to have a lot of short surveys available, so you can hit payout quickly. Plus you get £3 just for signing up!
Payment method: Bank transfer or vouchers
Payment threshold: £10
This is a London-based market research company that works with a lot of well-known brands. It pays 50p per survey.
Payment method: cheque or bank transfer
Payment threshold: £25
Valued Opinions sometimes pays up to £5 per survey! Also, you’ll occasionally get the opportunity to take part in focus groups, which are interesting and pay well.
Payment method: Gift cards for various brands including Amazon, John Lewis, M&S and Boots.
Payment threshold: £10.50
Bonus! Paid survey apps
These are surveys that you can complete on your phone only. Great for people who are always on the go.
If you like the idea of making money on the go, check out my post on top Money Making Apps to Earn Cash From Your Phone!
Top tips to get paid for surveys
Before you get started, make sure you know how to make the most of paid surveys:
It’s all about the volume
If you want to make real money with surveys, it’s all about the volume.
Some of these sites might only send you one or two surveys a month. You need to be on several different survey sites if you want to make anything approaching a regular income.
Sign up for at least my top five, but preferably more, to maximize your chances to earn!
That said, bear in mind that all these sites have different payment terms and minimum thresholds.
If you need cash fast, prioritise sites that let you cash out at a low sum (I’ve marked the payment thresholds above).
Create a new email address
I strongly recommend having a separate free email address just for surveys.
This way you can easily check for new survey notifications without clogging up your normal inbox. Also, some of these sites will email you a LOT!
Bookmark your favourites
I recommend signing up for as many survey companies as you can and then bookmarking them all in a special folder.
This means you can open up a whole load of survey tabs very quickly and keep them open to be alerted of new surveys.
It gets difficult to remember what you’ve told a company, and come surveys will lock you out if your answers don’t match up.
Stay on the ball
One advantage of getting paid for surveys is that you can do them while multitasking.
But don’t zone out too much if you complete surveys while watching TV or something. Some surveys will put in trick questions to make sure you’re paying attention.
Look out for scams
All of the survey sites above are legit and FREE to join.
There are certain sites out there that will charge you to get ‘access’ to paid online surveys.
Sites like this are generally scams and there is no need to pay anything, because you can find all the surveys you need on legitimate sites for free.
Surveys should be making you money, not costing you money!

Matched betting is a way to make money from the free bet offers on bookie websites. You use special calculators to ‘match’ your bets (for and against an outcome) so you don’t lose money, and the free bet is all profit.
It sounds complicated but there are training videos to talk you through it, and it all makes sense after your first couple of bets!
Profit Accumulator is the matched betting training and support service I use, and it’s amazing. They provide all the tools and information to help you know what to bet.
To try matched betting, you should be over the age of 18, a resident of the UK or Ireland, and have no history of gambling problems.
OhMyDosh! is an awesome money making site exclusively for people in the UK! You get paid to complete special offers and sign up for freebies and deals.
It pays very well, and fast too! Start with the offers in the ‘Lightening Payouts‘ section and you can have extra money in your account in just 3 days.
I made £20 within just 30 minutes of signing up to OhMyDosh and it has quickly become one of my favourite ways to earn extra money online 🙂
20 Cogs is a similar site to OhMyDosh!, where you get paid for signing up to special offers and free trials. The main difference is that you have to complete 20 offers before you can cash out.
This means it takes a bit longer to get your hands on your cash, but you should get a nice big chunk when you’re finished. The average payout is apparently just over £200!

Focus groups can be an easy and interesting way to earn extra cash.
Typically, you would have to travel to a location where you take part in an interview or group discussion about a brand or your consumer habits. But more recently, these groups take place online – which saves you time and money.
The fees vary a lot, but as a rough idea, you could earn £50-£100 for half a day’s work.
Easy £5 in minutes with Ziglu!
Ok, this is not an ongoing way to make extra money, but it is a very easy way to get a FREE fiver in just minutes!
Ziglu is an app for trading cryptocurrency. To claim your free £5, click here to download the Ziglu app with my referral. (You must use a referral link to be eligible for the bonus, so don’t just download from the app store!).
Create your account on the app and wait to be verified. This should just take a few minutes. Then, use the app to buy at least £1.20 of any cryptocurrency. (Note: technically you only have to spend £1, but I recommend £1.20, as you will lose a couple of pennies to exchange fees and you need a minimum of £1 to withdraw!)
Your account will be instantly credited with a £5 bonus. Now you can exchange your crypto back into pounds and withdraw it all back to your bank account, including the bonus.

Grab a free £5 with Cash App
Here’s another easy, one-off way to make a quick fiver! You can get £5 for free when you sign up with Cash App, an app for sending money to friends.
For this one, you need to be a new user of Cash App and you’ll need a friend with the app too (they can be a new or existing user).
Download the app and enter referral code MKWNTHM when prompted. You need a referral code to qualify for the offer.
Create an account and link your debit card.
To be eligible for the £5 bonus, you need to send £50 using Cash App within 14 days of signing up. So make sure you have a trusted friend who will send you the money back! If you don’t want to send £50 in one go, you can send a smaller amount back and forth a few times.
After sending a total of £50, your account will be credited with a free £5 and you can withdraw it to your bank.
Work as an extra
TV and film sets around the UK frequently need extras for non-speaking background roles.
You don’t usually need acting experience, although you will need to be professional and keep a straight face! Sometimes companies will be recruiting for people who fit a particular profile.
TV extra work pays around £200 for a day’s work. But be warned – the days can be very long and boring!
Teach English online
If you’re wondering how to make extra money in the UK part time, without leaving home, teaching English online could be for you.
There are lots of companies recruiting online English teachers to work with students (usually in Asia) over Skype.
You can earn anywhere from £10-£20 an hour depending on your experience and qualifications. All you need is an internet connection and headset!
You don’t necessarily need a teaching qualification. Depending on the school, sometimes just being a native speaker is enough.
That said, you can get an official TEFL certificate online pretty cheaply, and it will greatly increase your employment prospects.

Are you good with words? Can you research and write quickly and effectively? There is huge demand for freelance writers in a wide range of fields, from technical writing to blog writing.
Freelance writing is a flexible way to make extra money online. You can set your own schedule and take on as much or little work as you like.
Beginners can sign up with one of the many content agencies out there to get started right away (see link below for details). If you have more expertise, you may wish to pitch directly to relevant clients in your niche. Or, create a profile on one (or several) of the popular freelance marketplaces and wait for clients to come to you.
Test products and services
Testing Time is a site that pays you to test things! You can test out websites and apps, test physical products sent to you in the post, take part in surveys and focus groups (in person, online or on the phone).
You might not get very frequent opportunities on this site, but they are well paid when they come up. So it pays to be patient. You need to complete all the screener questions, then wait for an invite by email when a potential test fitting your profile is available.
The fees vary, but you can expect to earn around £4 for a short survey and £25 or more for a 45 minute focus group or study.
Payment is by bank transfer or PayPal, and it will be sent automatically 10 days after taking a test.
Risk-free and low-risk casino offers
Casino sites always have loads of promotions to win new customers and keep their existing customers coming back.
These are things like free spins on the slots, or bonus cash to spend on a game of your choice.
If you know what you’re doing, you can tactically make use of these special offers to profit – with no or minimal risk to your own cash.
I gave it a go and made around £100 in 10 days. Read my full Bonus Accumulator review for the details.
Boot sales are a classic way to earn extra money in the UK!
If you have a lot of clutter to get rid of, boot fairs can be an ideal way to have a clear out while making cash. And you get it all over and done with by lunch time – with none of the hassle of selling online and posting your goods.
This post has some great tips for a successful boot sale.
Sell old phones
If you’ve recently upgraded your phone and you have the old one knocking about, you can sell it for easy cash.
Compare My Mobile lets you quickly find out which site will pay you the most.
Mystery shopping is a popular way to make extra money. You simply have to visit a shop, ask a few questions and complete a questionnaire afterwards.
I love mystery shopping because you often get good freebies! You should be reimbursed for anything you’re asked to buy, and you will usually get to keep it 🙂
If you have a creative side, consider making money from your crafts.
You could sell at local fairs, ask local gift shops to stock your items, or sell online on Etsy.
Several companies are currently recruiting for subject matter experts to help students one-on-one in subjects such as psychology, business, maths, biology, management and more!
These include My Tutor and Superprof (both in the UK, and recruiting current university students to tutor younger students) and Course Hero (a US company recruiting graduates to teach uni students).
Drive for Uber
Uber has had a bad rap for workers’ rights in the past. But following a March 2021 court ruling, Uber drivers are now considered employees rather than contractors, and as such they get a whole host of benefits such as company pension contributions and holiday pay.
They’re also entitled to the national minimum wage of £8.91 per hour – although in practise, average earnings are reportedly closer to £15 per hour. (Bear in mind you’re responsible for your own vehicle costs though.)
What’s more, it’s totally flexible. You can do anything from one drive a month, to driving full time. So you can change your hours each week depending on your free time, and how much you want to earn.

Honeygain is an app that pays for your unused internet traffic. Just download it and let it run in the background – you won’t even notice it’s there, but over time you are earning credits that you can cash out once you read $20.
To speed up your earnings, you can download the app on up to three devices, and you also get paid to refer friends.
Users report earnings of between $5 and $30 a month.
Sell your clutter
Want to make money fast? Selling items from around your house is one of the easiest ways to start.
There are so many places to sell second hand items, including:
Selling apps such as Shpock, Mercari, Letgo, Depop and Vinted (some of these are quite new so the number of users in your area might vary)
Local community groups (online or real life)
Local newspaper classifieds
Noticeboard in local shops
Wondering what you can sell to make money? Good items to sell include furniture, good quality clothes, toys and electronics. But I’ve seen people sell all sorts, including empty jam jars, perfume bottles and iPhone boxes.
So you never know what people are willing to shell out for!
Run a reselling business
If you enjoyed selling off your clutter but you’ve run out of things to sell at home, how about starting a reselling business?
You can look for things to sell on for a profit in charity shops or boot sales.
Here’s an interesting interview with a woman who started a side business reselling used baby clothes after she had her first child. She made almost £8,000 in her first year!
Or, you could offer to help out friends who are decluttering by listing things on eBay for them for a cut of the profits. This lady makes an income doing just that!
Give feedback on TV
If you think you could feature on Gogglebox, you’ll LOVE The Viewers. It’s a market research company specifically about TV.
You can get paid to give your opinion on TV shows in focus groups, online surveys and reviews. It pays around £40 for an in-person focus group and around £10 an hour for online feedback.
Help train AI
Neevo is a website where you can make extra money online by completing small easy tasks, with the aim of helping companies improve their Artificial Intelligence systems.
The tasks typically include transcription (audio to text), recording short passages, tagging images and annotating text. Companies use this work to train automated chat-bots or develop video games, for example.
You simply log in whenever you have free time, and take your pick of the available tasks.
The pay varies depending on the task (and your speed!), but many users report earning around £50 a month with this site.
Quidco is a cashback site. You check it before you buy something online, click through from Quidco instead of going directly to the retailer’s site, and then you get free cash back into your Quidco account!
At the time of writing you also get a free £10 new customer bonus when you make your first purchase!
Switch bank accounts
You’ve probably seen all the bank ads offering great deals for switching. But it might seem like too much trouble to switch your main bank account.
Check out this post which explains how you can make money switching bank accounts even without losing your main account.
Rent out your gear
If you have any rarely-used items hanging around but you don’t want to get rid of them, you can rent them out for money.
Tools, lawn mowers, camera equipment and drones are all good things to rent for cash. Have a look at websites like Fat Llama for ideas.
Rent out your driveway
If you’re lucky enough to live near a town centre, station, football stadium, or other busy area – and you have a drive or private parking space – you can charge people to park.
This works out really well if someone needs to park during the daytime when you’re out anyway.
Rent out a spare room
If you have an empty room in your house, don’t let it go to waste!
There are lots of ways to make money from a spare room, including renting on Airbnb, taking a lodger or hosting a foreign exchange student.
And you don’t even need a whole spare room. According to the calculator above, you could net almost £500 per month on Airbnb just offering a place to sleep in a shared room in London (such as a sofa bed in a living room).
Learn more: How to Make Money From Your Home
You don’t even need to host guests in your house to make money on Airbnb!
With Airbnb experiences, you can earn money giving guided tours of your hometown, or leading activities such as a cooking demonstration, art workshop, or even pub crawl!
Sell advertising on your car
If you have your own car, you could make easy money by selling advertising space!
Car Quids is a company that pays you to stick adverts on your car. The ads peel off easily and don’t leave marks. You could earn up to £100 a month with little effort.
Set up an FBA business
FBA or Fulfillment by Amazon is a business model that lets normal people like you and me sell on Amazon, and collect a share of its multi billion dollar profits!
In a nutshell, you find a product to sell, and send it into the Amazon warehouse. Amazon handle the fulfillment (packing and shipping), and you get paid after it sells.
There are two main ways of sourcing products. You can buy up products on sale, to resell at a higher price on Amazon (this is known as ‘retail arbitrage’). Or, you can commission and import your very own products, finding a supplier on Alibaba.
This is an idea that can start as a small side hustle and potentially grow into a full time business if you keep reinvesting the profits.

Rent your space for photo shoots
Film, TV and photography companies often rent out ordinary people’s houses as a location for a shoot.
They need all different kinds of properties, but you can earn a lot more if you have a very unusual space – for example, a home decorated in a particular period style.
Start a blog
Blogging is a long term project rather than a quick and easy way to make extra money, but it can be SO worth it. In my case, I was able to replace my full time office job salary with blog income after just two years (earning £2,000-£3,000 every month and growing).
Bloggers make money in various ways, such as advertising, affiliate marketing (this is when you earn money for recommending products and services you rate), sponsored posts, and creating their own ebooks or other products to sell.
It can be a lot of work upfront but eventually becomes a very enjoyable and flexible business that you can run from your laptop anywhere in the world!
Spot properties for sale
Property developers are always looking for ideal buildings to buy. If you walk pass an empty or derelict property in your area, you can report it on YouSpotProperty.com and potentially make a nice fee.
Transcription is an interesting work from home job idea. Transcriptionists get paid to turn audio or video recordings into the written word.
You need to be a fast typist, but you don’t need any specific qualification.
See this list of companies offering jobs for freelance transcriptionists in the UK.
The Handy app is a great app to find odd jobs in the UK. It is mostly for cleaning and handyman type work.
Otherwise known as the infamous ‘chuggers’. You’ll need a thick skin and an outgoing personality for this, but there are always plenty of part time jobs going as charity fundraisers. The work can be either door-to-door or standing on the street.
The basic pay is low, but most companies offer a hefty commission or a bonus scheme on top of the base rate (which explains why chuggers are known for being so pushy) – so if you’re a confident salesperson, this could be a good source of extra income.
Wesser is one well-known company that recruits fundraisers for various charities in the UK. You can also find opportunities on the major job sites, such as Indeed.
Invigilating exams is a way to earn extra money in the UK around exam time.
All schools need invigilators to sit in exam rooms and ensure correct conditions. An easy, if boring, temporary job.
You can find exam invigilator jobs on most major job sites like Reed or Indeed.
Another way to make money from exams is marking. You obviously have to be qualified in the area you’re marking, so this is an ideal way for teachers to boost their income.
There’s also demand for qualified professionals (such as accountants) to mark industry exams.
Local councils across the UK hire thousands of temporary staff at local and national election times. There are jobs delivering polling cards, working at polling stations and even counting votes.
This can be a good way to make extra money if you just need an occasional boost. Contact the Electoral Services department of your local council.
Sign up for a Curve card
Curve is a new app and card that lets you combine all your different cards and bank accounts into one! It’s a really great idea and so convenient. Plus, the app gives you spending insights to help you budget.
You can earn £5 free simply by signing up for the free card and using it once. (You connect it to your bank and use it just like your usual debit card.) Plus, you can earn cashback on all your spending at three shops of your choice in the first three months (I chose Amazon, Tesco and Sainsbury’s).
This is not an ongoing way to earn extra money, but it is a quick and easy way to get a free £5. Plus I think the card itself is a great idea!
I love task apps such as Field Agent, Roamler and Streetspotr.
These apps pay you to do small tasks around town, such as mystery shopping or checking product displays. You can often fit in small tasks on your lunch break or around a shopping trip.
They pay quite well, too – around £6 for a 15 minute job.
Surveys are one of the most popular ways to make money online, and for good reason! You can do them any place, any time. I like doing surveys while watching TV.
I have a whole list of the best survey sites in the UK, but here are a few to get you started:
YouGov (has daily surveys that don’t screen you out)
Testable Minds (interesting academic studies)
Taskrabbit is an app that lets you do small odd jobs for money. The common jobs on the app are things like handyman services, removals, cleaning, assembling furniture and gardening.
Search engine evaluation
This is an interesting work at home job that involves online research to help search engines improve their results.
You have to take some training and pass a test to get started, but after that it should provide regular work.
Babysitting or childminding
Babysitting is an easy way to get started earning extra cash, especially if you already have friends, family or neighbours with kids who you could ask.
Childminding could be a perfect way to earn extra money while you stay at home with your own children. Again, perhaps start by offering your services to a friend who needs childcare while they go out to work.
You will need to register with Ofsted to work as a childminder, but not a babysitter. This depends on the age of the children, whether you work in your own home or theirs, and the hours you work. Check gov.uk for details.
Deliveroo drivers are in demand almost all over the country. You just need your own bike or other transport to get started.
The peak time for pizza delivery is evenings and weekends, making this a great way to earn extra cash around your day job.
I enjoyed this post from Stupid Is The Norm who makes £279 from delivering pizzas three night a week and suggests you can retire early by investing the extra cash!
Delivery jobs are usually just advertised in shop windows, so keep an eye out (or go and ask) in the shops near you.
This is another common delivery job in the UK. You can often deliver leaflets on foot, so it could be a good alternative to pizza delivery if you don’t have a vehicle, and it’s more exercise too!
Find these jobs on Gumtree or other recruitment sites.
RedWigWam is an online temp agency in the UK. They have loads of short term or one-off jobs, such as mystery shopping, temporary driving and cleaning jobs, and helping with special promotions in supermarkets.
Since they are mostly short term gigs, these are easy ways for you to make extra money around a full time job or the school run without too much commitment.
Run a T shirt business
If you’re looking for a way to make extra money online, how about designing T shirts to sell?
I’ve been selling T shirts on Merch by Amazon for about a year now, and I love it.
This money making scheme is called ‘print on demand’ which means I simply upload my design and write a description, and Amazon does all the rest: they print the shirt to order when somebody makes a purchase, ship it out and handle all the customer service.
Merch by Amazon has been live in the US for a while but they’ve just launched in the UK and Germany too. Once you’re accepted, you can sell in any of these marketplaces.
Other sites to sell T shirts (and other products) online include Printful, Redbubble and Teespring.
Chat line operator
Maybe not for everyone – but adult chat lines are one way to make money from home. You could earn up to £2000 a month!
Find out more in this interview with a woman who makes a full time income from home as a chat line operator.
Also see my full post on how to make money chatting online (adult and PG opportunities!).
Sell a story or tip to a magazine
There are countless magazines in the UK that will pay you for stories or tips! The weirder the better, and you get paid more if you include a photo.
Fiona from Savvy in Somerset earned £200 for sharing a medical story. She has all the info in this post.
Don’t be so quick to discount this idea – you don’t have to look like a ‘typical’ model to do this job!
If you’re more ‘interesting’ looking, take a look at Ugly.
If you can sing, dance, or perform in any way, perhaps busking could be a way to earn some extra cash? Contact your local council about licences.
Get some leaflets made up and it might even lead to private performance work.
Give out samples in shops
Get paid to search the internet
Qmee is a smart little browser app that shows you special ads when you’re doing your normal Google searches. You can earn a few pennies for each ad you click on.
It’s low paying, but it does add up over time – and it’s so easy!
You can make extra money on Qmee by taking paid surveys, too.
Sell old shoes on eBay
Don’t through out those old shoes. Believe it or not, there are people who pay good money for them – the stinkier the better! Emma Drew has a great article on this.
I’ve heard of people selling second hand socks and other, erm, personal items of clothing too.
Washing the car is one chore that a lot of people are more than happy to outsource!
You don’t need much special equipment, so if you need extra cash fast, get out knocking on doors and see if you get any takers.
VoxPopMe is a fun app that pays you to do short video questionnaires. Usually you have to record a two or three minute clip sharing your opinion on a certain brand.
Sell second hand books and DVDs
Books, DVDs, games and CDs – we all have piles of these around which could be turned into cash!

Design and sell printables
‘Printables’ are basically anything that somebody can download and print at home. One low-cost, low-risk way to start making money online is designing printable products to sell.
Some examples of popular printable products are: calendars/journals, meal planners, party/wedding invitations, art prints, greetings cards, gift tags, party decorations… the list is endless.
You can sell your products on Etsy, or set up your own shop on Shopify or a similar platform. I would recommend Etsy for beginners though, because they already have great traffic so you don’t have to work so hard at promotion.
All you have to do is design the products on your computer and upload the digital file to Etsy (or your platform of choice). The beauty of selling printables is that you can sell each file over and over again, with no extra effort from you!
Swagbucks is a popular money making website and app. There are lots of different ways to earn, including surveys, watching videos, playing games, paid to search, completing offers and more.
It’s not very high paying, but you can make a little bit of extra money while killing time on your phone.
Inbox Pounds is a money making site similar to Swagbucks. The three main ways to earn are taking surveys, playing games and searching the web.
The site sends you emails with new money making opportunities, hence the name.
Tip: I recommend making a new free email address when signing up to Inbox Pounds (and other money making sites such as Oh My Dosh) because you will get a LOT of emails!
Sign up to Inbox Pounds here.
Website testing is one of my favourite ways to make extra money from home, and it’s not very well known!
You get paid to explore a company’s website and answer questions about how easy it is to use.
Website testing pays around £8 for a 20 minute test. It’s a great rate of pay, although be warned you might only get a couple of tests a week.
Sell company names
Are you good at coming up with snappy sounding phrases? The website Squad Help pays you to think of company names.
You can either sell a name you’ve already thought of, or enter a contest to submit the perfect name for a particular brand. The contest prizes are usually $100-$500.
This is an online business model where you set up an online store and arrange for products to be shipped directly from the supplier. Most dropshippers use Chinese suppliers from Ali Express or similar, because it’s so cheap.
This is an interesting way to start up an online shop without handling products and shipping yourself!
If you are the sort of person who always points out the mistakes in menus, blog posts and other reading materials, proofreading could be the side hustle you’re looking for!
Freelancing on the side of your day job is a good way to make extra cash if you have any skills such as writing, editing, coding, web design, translation, proofreading and so on.
You can look for jobs or advertise your services on sites such as People Per Hour and Fiverr.
Read this post for tips on starting out as a freelancer.
Animal lovers can earn extra money as dog sitters or walkers! Look on Rover and Tailster for opportunities near you.
Virtual Assistants are online assistants who help out bloggers and businesses. This is an internet based job that you can do from anywhere in the world.
You can offer pretty much any service as a VA. Popular services include social media management, answering emails, research tasks, and so on. There are even VAs who specialize in Pinterest!
InstaGC lets you earn gift cards by taking surveys, watching videos and other easy online tasks.
Like Swagbucks, this is not a high earner so don’t get your hopes up, but it’s a simple and accessible way to get started earning online.
Get paid to share links on Pinterest
Did you know you can earn money by pinning on Pinterest? If you love using Pinterest for searching and sharing ideas, you will love this!
You can earn money on Pinterest by pinning products you love with affiliate links. This means that you earn a small commission if somebody clicks on your pin and buys the item.
I have a full tutorial on making money on Pinterest here.
Respondent.io is a site that pays you to take part in online focus groups and interviews. These are usually longer, detailed surveys by phone or video chat.
Because of this, they pay really well – I have seen several opportunities that pay over $100 for a one hour interview!
It’s a US site but they are often looking for UK participants. Respondent often look for participants with specialist knowledge, for example, people who work in a certain field, but there are lots of general opportunities as well if you keep an eye out.
Get paid to write music reviews
The website Slicethepie pays you to write reviews of new music tracks. It is quite low paying, but an easy and fun way to earn a bit extra if you love music.
Write book reviews
Maybe you’re more of a bookworm than a music buff? There are lots of websites that pay you to write book reviews.
Again, this isn’t a highly paid job, but the money can be an excellent bonus if you read a lot anyway. Plus, free books! And an excuse to curl up with your latest novel all day!
Solve companies’ problems
You will have better luck with this if you have specialist knowledge such as engineering or information technology. And of course, you could spend time submitting answers without getting paid.
But if you come up with the winning solution, the reward can be tens of thousands of dollars!
Take in ironing
Ironing is an easy home business to start with little upfront costs. And most people hate ironing, so you’ll never be short of customers!
Advertise locally in area Facebook groups or just by asking around.
Deliver for Amazon
There are loads of different delivery companies out there, but Amazon Flex is known for being pretty flexible (as suggested by the name!). This makes it a good option if you’re looking for a side income idea, rather than a full on job.
You don’t have to commit to regular hours. Simply use the app to view and select available ‘blocks’ when you want to earn extra money. The app shows estimated earnings and time needed to complete the job. On the day, pick up your packages and deliver according to the information shown on the app.
To join, you’ll need access to a car or van, a UK driving licence, and a smart phone to download the Amazon Flex app. You’ll also need to pass a background check.
Customer service representative
If you are wondering how to make a bit of extra money in the UK in an interesting way – and you are confident in yourself! – the answer could be life modelling!
Life models pose nude for artists and students. And you don’t have to look like a ‘model’ for this job – artists need models of all shapes and ages.
You can find life model jobs on job sites, and websites such as Gumtree, as well as directly on art school websites.
But please put your personal safety first. Personally I would only attend jobs hosted at a legit college or art school, and stay away from positions listed by private individuals.
Sell videos from your phone
Take videos on your phone and upload to Newsflare. If they get picked up by a news source, you’ll get paid.
Good ideas for popular videos include anything cute (babies, kittens, dogs) and news coverage (such as protests or anything happening live in your area). Newsflare also post requests for videos on certain topics – check under the ‘Video Briefs’ section.

Sell revision notes
Here is a great side hustle idea for students, as suggested by student blogger Anneliese, who made extra cash in her first year at uni by getting ahead of the course materials, writing up study notes and selling them to her coursemates.

Trade domain names
A domain name is a website address. For example, my site’s domain is boostmybudget.com.
Did you know domain names can be bought and sold, just like any other asset? Many people make great money by buying unused domain names at a cheap price and selling them on to businesses or bloggers who are willing to pay higher prices.
Rent out your garden as an allotment
There are long waiting lists for allotments in many parts of the UK. If you have your own garden and you could spare a patch, you could try renting it out as an allotment to somebody who wants to grow their own veg.
I don’t know of any websites specifically for this but I have heard of people doing it as an informal arrangement. You could try advertising on local community websites and Facebook groups.
You might get some free veg into the bargain!
FAQs on making extra money in the UK
How do I make an extra £1000 a month?
If you want to make an extra £1000 or $1000 a month in the UK, you have lots of options. You can aim to earn 1000 from one main side hustle, or build up to this total from a few smaller projects.
Here are some of the most effective side income ideas UK that can net you an extra £1000 per month:
Search engine evaluation (Appen/Lionbridge)
Teaching English online
Rent out a room
Work as a VA or freelancer
Online chat representative
I actually have a whole post on how to earn an extra £1000 a month, so check that out for more details!
How can I make $100 a day in the UK?
$100 a day on the side is a bigger challenge, but it’s not impossible!
Again, you can aim to make a extra $100 through a mix of smaller online tasks, such as surveys and apps.
But I think it’s easier to reach $100 a day by concentrating on providing a service, such as freelancing (writing, coding, editing, design – whatever skills you have) or working as a Virtual Assistant.
I would also recommend starting a blog! There’s a lot of hard work upfront, but after a year or so you can make £100 a day easily with your blog from advertising or affiliate marketing.
How can I make money fast today?
If you need extra money fast in one day, the quickest way is to sell something. You could either sell a service, such as car washing or cleaning, or sell things from your house that you don’t need.
For ideas of things to sell to make money fast, check out this related post:
And there are more ideas, including money making apps and websites that pay out quickly, in this post:
What are some second income ideas UK?
Well, any of the 80+ ideas in this article are a great way to earn extra income in the UK!
But if you want a second income – as in, a significant source of income outside of your day job – I recommend you focus on one of these online side hustles with high earning potential:
Blogging (I earned over £2000 a month blogging on the side when I was still in full time employment)
Teaching English online (you can get regular work with the same students each week, and it pays well, especially with a TEFL qualification)
Freelancing (flexible to fit around another job, and you can charge a lot if you have an in-demand skill)
Print on demand (designing T-shirts etc. The more designs you create, the more you can earn. Eventually you’ll be earning an income on autopilot)
Dropshipping (another online business you can run from your computer)
Alternatively, you can earn a second income by looking for a second job with hours that fit around your main job.
So for example, if you work a typical 9-5 job, you could pick up evening or weekend work doing babysitting, taxi driving/Uber, food delivery, working in a restaurant, and so on.
These articles will give you lots more second income ideas:
Do I have to pay tax on my extra earnings?
Remember that if you earn extra money in the UK, it is your own responsibility to register with HMRC and declare your side income.
However: there is currently a £1,000 tax-free allowance for trading income (which means self-employment and small casual jobs such as babysitting, gardening and selling on eBay – most of the things on this list), and another £1,000 allowance for property income (such as renting out a room on Airbnb).
You generally don’t have to register or pay tax if you earn less than £1,000 in each of these categories.
But you may choose to register voluntarily in certain situations. For example, if you need proof of self-employment to qualify for Maternity Allowance or Tax Free Childcare. Please see the government website for more info.
Another exception to this is matched betting. You don’t have to declare matched betting income, because it technically counts as gambling winnings, which are not taxed in the UK!
This is yet another reason why matched betting is one of my top recommendations for making money from home in the UK 🙂
Learn more about matched betting here.
How to register with HMRC and declare extra income UK
If you do earn over £1,000 in extra income in one tax year (which runs from April to April), you’ll have to register for Self Assessment with HMRC and declare your earnings in a tax return.
This is a lot easier than it sounds, so don’t let this put you off!
Just make sure to keep a record of all the extra money you earn. You can list this in a spreadsheet or notebook, whatever works for you.
Also keep track of any work-related expenses, such as a laptop or tools. You can claim tax relief on these.
And don’t forget to put aside some of your extra income to pay your taxes – otherwise you will be in for a nasty shock when you have to pay it all at the end of the year! I transfer a percentage into a separate savings account each month, so I can earn interest on it until it’s time to pay the tax bill.
HMRC has a useful calculator you can use to estimate your self employment tax bill here.
Don’t worry about your main job finding out about your side job. They will not be notified when you register for Self Assessment. Any extra taxes you pay (or tax relief you claim on your expenses) is between you and HMRC.
Please note that I’m not a tax adviser. This section is based on my own knowledge and research on gov.uk. If you have any questions about paying tax on your side hustle earnings, please speak to HMRC or a tax professional for advice!

How to Make Money With Amazon FBA
This is a guest post by Charles Camisasca, e-commerce expert and founder of The E-Commerce Boardroom. I’m delighted to have Charles on the blog to teach us how to make money with Amazon FBA, step by step. Over to Charles!
In 2020, US Consumers spent a mind-bending $861 Billion online. Most people know that e-commerce is exploding in popularity. You may not know that side hustlers and entrepreneurs can take advantage of this massive trend and make money by selling products online through e-commerce. In this post, we’ll cover exactly how to make money with Amazon FBA.
The only thing more impressive than the total amount of money spent online in 2021 is the fact that more than ⅓ of that figure came from a single e-commerce platform.
Is that a drumroll I hear?
You guessed it. Amazon.com did $386B in online retail sales in 2020…
Again, Amazon’s popularity is probably not a shock to you. But what you may not know is that Amazon makes up over two million 3rd-party sellers.
That’s right, businesses large and small can and do list their products on Amazon. And countless solopreneurs are doing too, with smashing success.
According to Jungle Scout, 43% of sellers have reached $100k or more in sales on the Amazon platform. By our count, that’s over 860,000 sellers.
The goal of this post is simple: I want to teach you how to become one of those third-party sellers that is killing it on the Amazon platform.
Let’s learn exactly how to make money with Amazon FBA.
What is Amazon FBA?
Let’s start with a simple definition.
Fulfillment by Amazon (or FBA) is an e-commerce business model allowing sellers to send their products to an Amazon Warehouse and list the items for sale on the Amazon website. Amazon stores the seller’s inventory, delivers the products to customers via Prime 2-day (or next day) shipping, and handles all customer service.
Hopefully, the immediate benefits of this are clear. For one thing, you get to list your product with the most dominant e-retailer on the planet. The typical e-commerce problem of “traffic” practically vanishes with the FBA model. People are naturally picking up their phones or laptops and shopping on Amazon all the time. You don’t have to convince anyone to do it.
Of course, you still bear some responsibility. Succeeding with FBA is not automatic.
But let’s stop beating around the bush and talk about exactly how to make money with Amazon FBA.
The 4 Steps to Making Money with Amazon FBA
Winning on Amazon is all about the product.
The vast majority of sales on Amazon are reactive. What I mean by that is this. People open their Amazon App because they are in the market to buy. They are looking for a specific product, or hoping to solve a particular problem that they are experiencing.
You have to be a problem solver with a great product to succeed on Amazon.
With this product-centric perspective in mind, let’s look at the 4 Steps to launching a profitable product.
Master these, and you will know precisely how to make money with Amazon FBA.
Find it.Make it.Ship it.Sell it.
Replace “it” with “the product” if you prefer. Find the product. Make the product. Ship the product. Sell the product.
The fun stuff comes with all of the sub-processes you need to learn to accomplish all 4 steps.
Let’s dive in.
Step 1: Find the product
Yep, the very first step is to come up with a fantastic product idea.
My recommendation is to start by making a list of the product markets about which you already have a good understanding. Look no further than your very own hobbies, interests, and skills. Although many don’t think about things in this way, each one is a product market!
I recommend you start here because you’ll have a good understanding of the pain points, or problems that need solving, within each market.
But don’t stop there.
Now, you need to back up your ideas with real, cold, hard market data.
There are many great tools online for Amazon product research. Jungle Scout, Helium10, and Viral Launch are a few of my favorites.
These software tools enable you to view data from real Amazon sellers and products. You get to analyze the total number of orders, real sales dollars (revenue), and customer review counts and ratings of your competitors!
It almost doesn’t seem fair.
But it’s part of the game of how to make money with Amazon FBA. Use these software tools to look for profitable markets with low customer satisfaction (review) ratings. Estimate your earning potential before you even spend a dime.
In the next step, we’ll talk about taking these ideas and turning them into a reality. Let’s learn how to improve upon the products currently being offered in your niche so that you can capture market share and drive sales.
Step 2: Make the product
Once you discover a product in high demand that has low customer satisfaction, it’s time to source your product. To find a supplier, I recommend using Alibaba.
Alibaba is the world’s largest global B2B marketplace. That makes it extremely easy to get in touch with manufacturers worldwide (note: Alibaba is a Chinese company, so most of the suppliers listed there are based in China).
On the Alibaba platform, you can request a quote, negotiate, and acquire free samples of the products you wish to sell.
I recommend you start by typing in your product keyword and reaching out to the top 10 suppliers of your product.
You want to get a sense of your overall cost, the product quality, and the timeframe required to get the product manufactured and delivered to the Amazon FBA Warehouse.
Additionally, an essential step at this stage of the process is to differentiate your product. How will you stand out from your competition in the marketplace?
Common differentiation ideas include:
New product features that solve a pain pointNew colors or sizesBunding products in unique waysAdding your brand logo to the product or packaging (known as private labeling)
Take a look at the negative (1-Star) product reviews of competing products. What are customers complaining about? Can you solve their problem with a new product feature?
Work with your manufacturer to tweak and differentiate their product. That’s a surefire way to capture significant market share.
Once you’ve done that – and you’re satisfied with the price point, quality, and timeframe for delivery, you are ready to place your order and move on to the next step!
Step 3: Ship the product
I’m assuming for this step that you’ll be importing the product from overseas, as is usually the case for US or UK based Amazon FBA entrepreneurs.
After you’ve placed your order with the manufacturer, the next step is to get your products to an Amazon Warehouse. To do so, you will need to ship them via Ocean Freight (by boat) or Air Freight (by plane).
You can’t do this yourself.
Instead, you’ll need to contract with a type of company called a Freight Forwarder. They will handle all of your required product preparation, customs brokerage, and delivery to the Amazon FBA Warehouse.
If this part sounds overwhelming… don’t sweat it.
It’s actually easier than it sounds. To get started, simply head over to a Freight Forwarding marketplace like Freightos. They’ll walk you through every step of the process and ensure that everything goes smoothly.
Once your products arrive at the Amazon FBA Warehouse, your responsibilities (as they pertain to logistics, anyway) are done!
The product will automatically become “live” and available for purchase as soon as Amazon counts your inventory. As mentioned, Amazon then handles final delivery to the customer via Amazon Prime 2 day shipping, and takes on all customer service.
But if you really want to learn how to make money with Amazon FBA, don’t sleep on the 4th step…
Step 4: Sell the product
Here we go.
Your product has arrived at the warehouse. It’s been counted by Amazon’s team. You’re ready to start making sales.
But nothing is happening.
Well, Amazon is…among other things…a search engine.
Think about a brand new website that gets created. Does it suddenly show up at the top of Google search results? Of course not. Because Google has to index the site and determine whether or not people will actually want to go there. In fact, there is an entire sub-industry of digital marketing dedicated to “Search Engine Optimization.”
Just like a brand new website, your new Amazon product listing is not likely to get any visitors right away. But with Amazon, all you need to do is convince the algorithm that your product is awesome.
There’s a lot that goes into this endeavor.
However, here are the basics of Amazon marketing:
Optimize your product listing. Ensure your listing has relevant keywords in the title, description, and bullets. Post top-quality product photos, including lifestyle photos.Boost sales with Amazon PPC. A shortcut to getting traffic to your product page is to use Amazon’s native Pay Per Click advertising tool. It is an absolute necessity in getting your first sales. Earn positive product reviews. These days, this is primarily done by ensuring that your product is terrific and provides each customer with a positive experience.Consider off-site promotions. You can create a website for your Amazon brand, run Facebook or Google Ads to your product listing, pay influencers to promote your product, or get a prominent blogger to review your product.
Used in combination, the above tactics are a great way to boost your product’s ranking and organically start appearing on the top page of search results for your keyword.
